
Did you know that in 38 of the 50 (and yes, there are only 50) United States capital punishment is legal? Not just Texas and Alabama or whatever. 38! To be fair, New York has ruled it unconstitutional but still has a guy on death row. And 4 or 5 other states where it is legal haven't executed anyone since 1976 (when capital punishment was reinstated after a constitutional challenge).
As of march 15, 9 americans have been executed in 2007. 53 last year, down from 98 in 1999.
